Harvey Milk's grandfather was a Long Island macher who helped build his town's first synagogue. Harvey Milk was a different kind of macher: the first openly gay official to play a significant role in American politics, and ultimately a hero to many in the LGBT and civil rights communities. The new movie "Milk" depicts the life and career of this pivotal figure, and emotions in the theater will be palpable. Starring Sean Penn as Milk, and James Franco, Emile Hirsch, Diego Luna and Josh Brolin. Directed by Gus Van Sant ("Good Will Hunting", "My Own Private Idaho") from an original screenplay by Dustin Lance Black.

Carpooling will be available from Ravenna Kibbutz Commons Aleph (6230 23rd Ave NE), but do call or write ahead to coordinate. We'll meet at the Egyptian at 6:45 to get good seats. After the movie, we'll grab coffee and donuts, or drinks (your vote) together.
