Jazz-age Jewish Propaganda from the Soviet Union!Russian speakers! Yiddish lovers! Cinephiles! Communists! Fans of the Jazz-age!

Come join us for THE RETURN OF NATHAN BECKER (1932), the Soviet Union's first ever Yiddish "talkie"! Mixing a scathing critique of American capitalism and race relations, with a jubilant celebration of Soviet industry, this film is cinematic utopia incarnate!

The plot centers on Nathan Becker, a Jewish bricklayer who returns to Russia with an African-American friend after twenty-eight years in America. After reuniting with his father, Nathan leaves the shtetl to work in the new industrial center of Magnitogorsk (home of the famous Magnetic Mountain!).
