The Ravenna Kibbutz is thrilled to host the fantastic Real Vocal String Quartet this month. This incredible group of Jewish women from the Bay Area play and sing with influences ranging from traditional American string band music to contemporary improvisation, from Brazilian folk rhythms to hypnotic meditations from West Africa. Through it all, the threads of spine-tingling vocal and instrumental harmony and fearless, inspired improvisation weave a web of original acoustic music played with a deep groove.
Because the concert takes place on the Fast of Gedaliah, we invite guests to bring kosher-dairy or vegatarian potluck dishes to share after the concert, for a casual break-fast.
Admission is free, as at all Ravenna Kibbutz events, but to ensure that independent Jewish musicians get the community support they need and deserve, we suggest a donation of $18 -- less if you can afford less, more if you can afford more.
Gather and shmooze at 4:00. The concert will start promptly at 4:30. Break-fast will follow the show.
RVSQ was formed in 2003 by premier San Francisco violinist/composer Irene Sazer. Since then, the quartet has performed to sold out audiences around the Bay Area. The group is thrilled to announce the release this February of their first studio album.
